Isle of Capri Wins Final Casino License in Pennsylvania

Isle of Capri has been competing for the final gaming license in the state of Pennsylvania for the past few months and their area is facing against one of the most popular gaming areas in the United States. But in the end, the group won the casino license in Pennsylvania. The state Gaming Control Board awarded the 12th and final casino license to Isle of Capri on April 14th, 2011. In an astonishing development when it comes to casino license battle, the groups in Pennsylvania that lost out in battle were happy about the result. Jim Lighthizer, who is a representative of the Civil War Trust, said that the outcome is a favorable development not only for Gettysburg but the other historic locations in Pennsylvania. But residents must also make sure that historic sites will not be affected by unplanned casino development. Jim Lighthizer was pointing to the failed gaming bid by David LeVan, who proposed to construct the Mason Dixon Resort and Casino near the popular battle ground in Gettysburg. LeVan's casino proposal had the community residents divided, with some residents believing that the Mason Dixon Casino will help revitalize the area. But the winner of the casino license was Isle of Capri, with their winning bid to modify the Nemacolin Woodlands Resorts into a casino establishment. The gaming facility will be the 11th running casino in Pennsylvania with Foxwoods failing their casino proposal earlier this year. Other groups were also trying to win the final casino license. The Fernwood Hotel and Resort in the Poconos and Holiday Inn in Harrisburg had passed gaming proposals but the state Gaming Board decided to place the final casino in the southwest portion of Pennsylvania. If Foxwoods fail in their appeal to recover their casino gaming license, the Gaming Board would have to decide on who will have Foxwoods' license. Most of the developers who failed in their bid for the 12th casino license are expected to resubmit a bid if the Foxwoods license will become available.
