Korean Internet Gambling Ring Busted
A huge adult gambling PC operations and a company developing an illegal gambling program were uncovered recently by the Ulsan, Korea, Metropolitan Police Agency, which arrested seven key figures in the illegal operations, and 34 others.
The seven arrested will be charged with running adult gambling PC rooms using illegal gambling softwares. The 34 others, although not arrested, will be prosecuted with the same charges.
Two of those arrested were Lee, 33, who acts us the representative of "N" program developing company, and Kim, 35, one of the owners of six PC rooms using N.
Police reports disclosed that Kim had sold about 76.3-billion won of cyber money to customers. For his part, Lee allegedly collected 340-million won in May alone for developing several illegal gambling software programs.
Lee's illegal softwares include poker and Go-Stop. These illegal softwares have been sold to "G" company, where Lee managed and operated the servers.
Kim and his companions are charged with setting up bases in Seoul and Daegu, while providing illegal gambling softwares. Kim covers around 280 adult gambling PC room member businesses from April until his arrest on July 4.
Authorities are still looking into more details on the other program-developing companies. Police said that with only an ID and a password, it is possible for anyone to download gambling software on personal computers.
